I sincerely apologize as I previously left a very negative review about not being open. Thank you for your response, as you were 100% correct. I was at the location next to the DMV.

This place is really good and organized. Nothing like dumping your recyclables out in a big bin and then handed cash in no time at all. No sorting and no getting your hands dirty. Why would anyone go to a place right around the corner like Wegmans to hand feed them into a machine then have to take a slip into the store to redeem. Keep up the good work Upstate 🙂

Love how efficient and friendly the staff are. However, a couple times my cans in their cases were miss counted. So now I give them the total count of the cans in cases after they count the bags of bottles. Easier for them to add the 2 counts together. My only gripe is I wish you were open on Sundays for at least a few hours. I made the mistake of going to the Bottle & Can Retrieval Center near Bob's Dinner on East Henrietta. I waited 45 minutes there. There was only one person working handling the line out the door of customers. He was letting the machine count every thing. Slowwww!

Henrietta Bottle Return FAQ

Who we are?

At Upstate we are committed to being the best Henrietta redemption center there is. We promise to have the cleanest and friendliest redemption centers around, guaranteed.

More info: What are Redemption Centers?

What do we accept?

We buy back anything with a NYS 5 cent redemption mark on it. If you are unsure, check the lable of your bottle or can; or the top of the can. It will have the states that you can redeem the item in listed.

More info: What Redemption Centers Accept

What don't we accept?
  • Non-deposit bottles & cans
    • Gatorade
    • Iced Teas
    • Juice
    • Milk, etc. Our buyer’s plant does not process non-deposits.
  • Kegs
  • Growlers
  • Water cooler jugs
  • Crumpled or crunch items
  • Wrapperless items

Why no crushed or wrapperless items?

We have to sell the bottles and cans back based on average bag capacity per the size of the item. So, if we put crushed cans in our bags we are putting in a lot more than the average bag capacity and lose money. If we don’t have wrappers to identify the item, we can’t put it with the correct bags to be properly accounted.

How do we make money?

We make our money from reselling the bottles and cans. Per the New York Bottle Bill in 2009, registered redemption centers can make a handling fee per bottle or can received.

What is the Bottle Bill?

The New York State Returnable Containers Act aka, the Bottle Bill, is the state legislation that governs redeemable containers. Passed in 1982 and reformed in 2009, it lays out the guidelines for depositable recycling in New York State.

Do we take all recycling?

In a way, Our Henrietta Redemption Center can recycle the cardboard and plastic bags that you bring your recycling in. But, we cannot accept cardboard and plastic in bulk. Our intermediary won’t buy back non-drinking receptacles and the garbage bill would be too high to not charge you. Sorry!

We recommend taking all of your other recycling needs to ecopark. They can recycle most things for free, small fee can apply for more hazardous materials.

Does it matter where I bought them?

You can return anything that is depositable to redemption centers. The way we sort the items and sell them back makes sure the credit goes to the right place.

However, if the bottle or can was purchased in a non-deposit state, we cannot pay for it as there was never a deposit on it to begin with.

What makes it depositable or not?
It largely has to do with the legislation around the New York Bottle Bill. It started with a littering problem in the 70’s and what was depositable was mostly the most commonly seen litter. In 2009, water bottles were added to the bill.
What if my bags are gross?
We know your bottles and cans might get dirty & sticky from time to time and it’s OK, we have gloves! We just ask that you try your best not mix in excess garbage. However, for sanitary reasons we cannot accept insect infected bags or rotting food.
