Our Canandaigua Redemption Center Reviews
Redemption centers have long ignored the customer service aspect of returning bottles and cans. At Upstate, we strive to be not only the fastest, but the friendliest and most honest Canandaigua redemption center that we can. 5 star ratings are our goal and we will settle for nothing less. But, don’t take our word for it, ask our customers.

Canandaigua Bottle Return FAQ
Who we are?
We are one of the largest, locally owned redemption center chains in the state. We started in Brockport in 2009 and now have 15 centers across WNY. We are authorized to reimburse any NYS 5 cent deposit receptacle. We are proud to now have a Canandaigua Redemption Center.
What do we accept?
Each bottle & can will tell you if there was a deposit on the item. The states in which it can be claimed and the amount of the deposit are marked. We take anything with NY marked on the bottle.
What don't we accept?
- Non-deposit bottles & cans
- Gatorade
- Iced Teas
- Juice
- Milk, etc. Our buyer’s plant does not process non-deposits.
- Kegs
- Growlers
- Water cooler jugs
- Crumpled or crunch items
- Wrapperless items
Why no crushed or wrapperless items?
We make our money by reselling the returns to the factory. The returns are sold off by the average amount of a certain size that fits in the industry standard bags. If we buy crushed items from you, we put more in a bag than can fit and we take a loss when we get paid out on a lower number.
If they are wrapper-less we don’t know who holds the deposit and the item cannot be properly accounted for.
How do we make money?
As outlined by the NYS Bottle Bill, licensed redemption centers are paid a per-return handling fee for processing and properly sorting redeemable drink containers.
Do we take all recycling?
In a way, Our Canandaigua Redemption Center will recycle the cardboard and plastic bags that you bring your recycling in. But, we cannot accept cardboard and plastic in bulk. Our intermediary won’t buy back non-drinking receptacles and the garbage bill would be too high to not charge you. Sorry!
We recommend taking all of your other recycling needs to ecopark. They can recycle most things for free, small fee can apply for more hazardous materials.
Does it matter where I bought them?
The role of our canandaigua redemption center in the recycling process is not only to take in recycling but to sort it as well. Materials get sorted into bags by bottling company, material and size. They are then ready for resale and the deposit makes its way back to the right place.
However, if the bottle or can was purchased in a non-deposit state, we cannot pay for it as there was never a deposit on it to begin with.
What makes it depositable or not?
We were unable to find any information on the motives for only including some of our drinking containers. The bills was passed before anyone over here was born! But, an easy way to think about it is if it’s carbonated or water it probably has a deposit. If it’s not carbonated, it probably doesn’t have a deposit. There are exceptions to the rule however.
If the container has the mark of NY 5 cents, our Canandaigua Redemption Center will take it.
